President's Report
Wow here we are only two competitions to go before the end of the season, the neat
thing too is that the points are very close in some sections and the last competitions
could make the difference, exciting ah? I'm very pleased to say the May competition
was another very good one, we ended up with over 40 anglers weighing in fish and the clubrooms
were full for the prize giving, and what great prizes they were thanks to our very
generous sponsors, AMI Insurance, Fairview Motors, Paul Jones Contracting, and our new
boys on the block Laurent Contracting. Thanks so much to you all, I'm sure our members will
support you in return where they can.
There were some very nice fish weighed in including the top Kingi by Bob Bevege and a
very nice bin of snapper by Harry Fort, Harry took out the top snapper and 3 bag, well
done.
It was good to see some nice fish being weighed in from land base fishing, Craig Arden
and Paul Doudell landed some nice snapper to take out first and second in the S & D
Builders land based comp and Paul's son Lucas took out the 10-16 junior mystery, well done.
The next competition is the 4th & 5th of June and will be another good one. The water temperature
is still up and the autumn weather is still here. We have another great line up of
sponsors with Property Brokers, Allenco Marine and Harry Fort Decorators, come along
and have fun, sign up a friend and bring them along, and get the kids out, I must say it is so
rewarding to see more and more Juniors coming along to the weigh ins, the look on their
faces when they drop their fish on the scales, or come up and get a spot prize is priceless.
I know it's a couple of months away yet but time flies so put the 6th of August on your
calander now, yes it's our annual prize giving and you don't want to miss it, we thought we
would have it at the clubrooms, starting with drinks and nibbles and a chat at 3pm, prize
giving at 4pm, then we will fire up Matamata Butcheries big barbeque at 5pm. Attendance
will be free and you will be able to buy a sausage, burger, steak etc on the night, all
proceeds going back to the club to benefit you, the members.
Next date to mark on your calendar after that is the AGM on the 17th of August, come along
and have your say on how the club is going, we have a great team on our committee and
membership numbers are up to nearly an all time record, 473 at the moment and growing.
If you feel that you would like to be on the committee and do your bit come along and
throw your hat into the ring.
As I mentioned at the May competition prize giving we are looking at the possibility of
taking away the old container on the end of the clubrooms and building on an addition to
house all our gear and it will include our own office and bench unit, sink etc for cleaning up
etc. There are a lot of ducks to get in a row first but I just want to keep you all up to date
with what is happening in our club.
So see you all at the June Competition.
