April Newsletter 2016

President Report

Hi all, hope all good with you and you have had a chance to cast a line or two, Autumn is such a good time of the year to fish, it would be a shame to only take advantage of it on the competition weekends. However they are great excuse to get out there. I'm very pleased to say our April competition was another beauty, the weather wasn't great unfortunately but we still managed to have over eighty people at the weigh in. A very special thanks to our wonderful long time sponsors Gibson and Val from LJ Hooker, and Glenn and Sharon from Waharoa Transport, also of course adding to a great day were our new sponsors for the month Brain and Kerry from Matamata Auto Services and Electrical. Great big thanks to you all for supporting our awesome club. For those of you who were there, wasn't it great to see such a good turnout of children for the nippers competition, and to all the parents and grandparents who took them out well done, nice to see the future of our club in good hands ah. Coming up fast is our May competition of course and back on board are our usual great supporters: AMI Insurance, Fairview Motors and Paul Jones Contracting. I'm very pleased to announce another sponsor for the month to make the may competition even bigger and brighter, the two Laurent boys, Vaughan and Grayson from Laurent Contracting have come on board,
wow awesome to see them following in their mum and dad's footsteps, isn't it awesome to see the next generation coming through and keeping our great club going along in fine style. Please as members support all our sponsors when and where you can especially important at the moment when the district is going through a tough patch and could be for a while. As for the May competition and the fishing goes it should be a good one, the fishing at the time of the year is exceptional and I hope you take the chance to make the most of it. Our competition also falls on the opening of duck hunting season and a prize will be up for grabs for the heaviest duck, should be a bit of humour so make sure you come along to the weigh in. Where to catch the big one: Autumn is the time of year to target those snapper in the shallows along the edges of the foul ground, outside the Cow and Calf at Coromandel, off Peachgrove at the Mercury Islands, around the Aldermans, in close around Mayor Island, off the Knoll at Motiti, just to name a few spots well worth heading to, I have had several reports of 20lb plus snapper being caught stray lining over the Penguin Shoals. Good luck to you all be safe at sea and I'll see you all at weigh in.
Happy days Bungey
