Bungey's a Granddad again 7lb.8oz Carter Christopher Bungard born in Perth
Australia 15/02/2016 So it's up to the girls to write a report:
Hi to you all, well the February comp was a great success with 176 adults and 47 kids
turning up for the first competition for 2016. I'd like to thank those of you who
came along, and those of you who went away with prizes and spot prizes with an
added bonus this year of meat packs donated by Terry, Carol Holmes and family.
Very many thanks to our other major sponsors for the February competition
Begovich Builders, Splice Construction and Matamata Sportsworld.
The weather didn't play ball for the weekend but it was still pleasing to see not only
the people who weighed in fish, there were several other members turned out also,
with 40 more new members from our last competition. I hope you all came out to see
the family atmosphere and stories about the fish and an added bonus of fish and
chips, having a snack of freshly caught fish. The club has cooked donated fish from
many awesome members for 25 years, thank you to these people who once again
donated fish, it can't be said enough it's what our fishing club is all about.
The March Competition is named 'THE BIG FISH', it's sponsored by Matamata Marine,
Matamata Challenge, King Electrical, Matamata Veterinary Services, and Plumbco.
These guys want to encourage the members to not only catch the monthly
species, but to try other species, like Marlin, Tuna and Kingfish. To make more reason to
get out there they have also jackpotted $900.00 back into this year's competition
from last year's not struck. The Marlin are out at the moment with heaps caught in the Whangamata competition last week, and Owen Henderson weighed in a Mahi mahi. Jeremy Bennett
just landed a nice marlin on a trip up around Waihou Bay, presume it was tagged
as he's up there for a while, so you guys and gals try something different and go catch
the fish of your life.
The competition is held over three days – Friday, Saturday and Sunday to catch that
Marlin, Tuna, and Kingfish and for the ones unable to get time off work, Saturday and
Sunday for Snapper, Trout, Kahawai, Tarakihi/ John Dory/Gurnard/Trevally.
Also we have Waharoa Transport Nippers competition in conjunction with the above
sponsors. This is also to promote kids going fishing, this is separate to the kids prizes in
the March competition because they can weigh in any fish caught not using club
rules so take the little ones out and watch their faces as they weigh in their catch.
Don't forget while you are out fishing take some great pictures to share with us all
on facebook. Email: matamata.fishing@xtra.co.nz and
