April Newsletter 2018

President's Report

Hi all, hope all is good with you and your families, a bit of a shock last week to have a frost but it is autumn and those sudden southerlies will do that. The good news is there is still plenty of very good autumn fishing to come, as the water temperature drops the bite time increases as the snapper feed up to put condition on for the winter, not a bad idea that.

The April competition weekend saw some strong winds around the coastlines but I’m very pleased to say we still had a very good turnout at the weigh in. Once again there were plenty of kids at the prize giving, this is great to see and thanks to Waharoa Transport, Glen and Sharron, there were prizes galore for the wee fishos to take home.

For the adults it was the same story, LJ Hooker, now owned and operated by Jack and Colleen Van Lierop, and Matamata Auto Services and Electrical, another local business owned by Brian and Kerry Raupi, were the sponsors and put up the prizes, many many thanks guys, we really do appreciate it.

Next competition is on the 5th & 6th of May, autumn is an excellent time of the year to catch fish, especially big snapper. We have long time supporters of the club as sponsors, these consist of Fairview Motors, AMI Insurance, Paul Jones Contractors, and the Laurent Contracting boys, an excellent line up, the prizes will be there for you to compete for so get out on that water and do it.

At our last committee meeting Arrum came up with the idea of a group of fishing club members heading up to the north. We would look at doing this for the next years big fish competition in March, because the competition includes Friday for game fishing. Arrum thought it would be cool to perhaps organise a couple of far north game boats and fill them with club members. If this would interest you please let me know ASAP as it would take some organising and early booking would be important.

See you in May, happy fishing.
