President's Report
Hello team,
Welcome to our March 2025 newsletter.
Our February competition was a huge success. It was great to see so many families at the Club which all bides well for our Club's future. Congratulations to the four Anglers who tagged and released Marlin for our competition, two seniors and two juniors. This is the first time I have seen four Marlin ever weighed in at the Club in one competition. A huge con gratulations goes out to Zara Clifton and Mike Thomson and our Junior Members Conrad Dalton and Holly Henderson.
It was exceptional to see so many kids out with their families catching these fish. Well done to you all.
The weather played its part as well which helped make it such a great competition. A huge thank you to our February sponsors which included Stihl Shop Matamata, Riverhaven Rod & Reel Repairs, Begovich Builders, Matamata Butchery Limited, TopCru, and Bob Autridge.
Our annual March competition is the “Big Fish” Competition kindly sponsored by King Electrical, Plumbco, Challenge, Matamata Marine, and Farm Veterinary Matamata (FVM). This competition has been running for many years. The competition was designed to take people out of their normal comfort zone and extend themselves to catch the bigger fish. Also thanks to Waharoa Transport and Small Steps Early Learning Centre for sponsoring the kids competition.
We would also like to welcome aboard our new Sponsor for this month Wrightway Builders Ltd. Alex is a keen fisho and is looking forward to his association with the Fishing Club. Thanks for your support Alex!
Please remember even if you don’t go fishing, come down to the Club on the Sunday afternoon for a drink, some cooked fish and you may even win a spot prize! Everyone is always welcome and we encourage new members to come and have a look at what we do.
Once again a huge thank you to all our sponsors. Please remember to support them when you can as they support us. Let’s all look forward to our March competition and remember to challenge yourself to try for that bigger fish!
All the best, tight lines,
Phil Stevens
